FUTURE SEEDS

Andes Sprouts Society plans to launch its Media Art / Farming residency program this summer. For year 2010 to 2012, we solicit residency proposals based on a specific theme, "FUTURE SEEDS". This initiative derives from our farming exchange, to explore in bio-tronic media art , further connect the programming codes and data processing with the algorithm of seeding and growth. Through sensing, cultivating and communicating with soil, fields, seeds, plants via electronic means and devices, FUTURE SEEDS explores a brand new genre of electronic art that situates artists in the farm land and farmers admist electronic.

Andes Sprouts Society located on 23 acres farm land in Andes New York, has been a gathering node for farmers and artists since 1997. The Society was established in 2007 to officially pursue residency programs. The SEASON - based residency at Andes takes up each farming season a level of bio-tronic R&D - i.e. In Spring , seeding and planting in the green house using DIY Arduino sensors for moderating humidity /temperature/moist; in Summer, urban farming and the food system, establish web-based Urban-Farm relay codes ; in Autumn, the harvest and preservation dictate the residency activities, In Winter, snow and fireplace anticipate next year's cycle.

The crucial part of the residency is to establish connection with medialabs and the current open Source media art practices while promoting sustainable living & working for media artists. "FUTURE SEEDS" allows for systematic investigation of current bio-media works . Situated at a ‘back to the land’ basic setting, ALL artist residents are part of farming activities along with their media projects. By late 2012, we aim for "FUTURE SEEDS" exhibition/conference locally in New York state and beyond.
